With Dubai’s clear ambition of becoming the most sustainable city in the world by 2050, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) paves the way for leadership in sustainable living. To learn from markets with world-class sustainability activities, a delegation of leading Danish companies are currently visiting the country where Aalborg CSP’s solar expertise is set to present a proven solution to the UAE’s water, food and energy security needs.

The aim of the visit is to highlight and share Danish expertise, rules and regulations with leading developers and stakeholders in the UAE. Led by the Danish Minister for Environment & Food, H.E. Mr. Esben Lunde Larsen and the Ambassador of Denmark to the UAE, H.E. Mrs. Merete Juhl, sustainability experts, such as Danfoss, Grundfos, Rambøll and Aalborg CSP, are in the UAE from 19-21 February to share knowledge on sustainability, waste water, retrofitting and waste management matters.

Having an ongoing dialogue with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and considering Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy under which 75% of Dubai's energy will be generated from clean sources, Aalborg CSP was selected among those top companies whose solutions suggest a strong match with the UAE’s ambition. As a leading specialist in concentrated solar power (CSP) and energy storage technologies, Aalborg CSP is set to share best practices from its global project portfolio, with particular emphasis on those sustainable solutions that address global food, water and energy security challenges. A testament to this is a desert-farming facility that relies on sunlight and seawater to produce 17,000 tonnes of tomatoes a year in the Australian desert.

Our project in Port Augusta (Australia) is a proven example of how a solar energy system can meet energy, water and food challenges in some of the most stressed areas in the world.  With both, salt water and solar resources readily available in the UAE there is basis for solar-thermal plants of this kind in the country. Whether it is a thermal energy storage or solar-thermal technology designed to support food production, our engineering expertise unleashes the potential of renewable and hybrid energy for diversified applications” – says Peter Badstue Jensen, Executive Vice President at Aalborg CSP.
